This Humanities class is called Rhetoric, and during our first unit of this class, we learned about all the different rhetorical devices that go into making a message, including the three main appeals; the ethos (appeal to ethics), logos (appeal to logic), and pathos (appeal to emotion). We also watched the Democratic Primary Debate, and follow along with our certain candidate. I was given Kamala Harris as my candidate. For our Action Project for this unit, we were asked to make a little video speech from the perspective of our candidate from the debates, and answer a question that might be asked to them from their perspective. Below is my video speech. WH, Our House Is On Fire Speech , 2019 In conclusion, I thought that this Action Project was enjoyable to make, and an interesting experience to do overall. It was difficult, though, and hard to properly speak from the perspective of the candidate that we were given.

I volunteer at Casa Norte because I wanted to find an enjoyable way to give back to the neighborhood. La Casa Norte is a Chicago-based homeless shelter that provides food for folks with incomes at or below government averages and live nearby or are an existing client. They do this during their Fresh Market days every Monday. They do this because they want to be able to help the significant number of people in the surrounding neighborhood that are struggling with poverty or homelessness. This organization could not do all of this without volunteers, however. As a volunteer, I help pack and distribute food to people who need it through the Fresh Market system. For our final Action Project for our STEAM class, Cure, we were tasked with creating a patient profile for a fictional character, using information from our own family trees (and mixing it up so there aren't any real connections to real people). I chose to investigate into Type 2 Diabetes, and below is my patient profile. In conclusion, I thought that this project was difficult because of the time crunch scenario that I had with it, but since that was mostly my own fault, it was alright. I actually found the project to be quite enjoyable once I got into it.

For our only and final Action Project for our Workshop class, Writing, we had to choose a type of essay to do (out of four options), and have it be a big long-term project over the course of the entire workshop. Below is my own essay; a personal narrative. In conclusion, I thought that this project was quite enjoyable to do. I like just being able to talk about myself and the things that I'm really passionate about, like reading.

For our third and final unit for our Humanities class, Drama, we discussed what a matriarch is, and we also talked about blockbusting, and the majority of our class time was spent reading the play A Raisin in the Sun . A matriarch is usually defined as someone who's mentally strong, and the head woman of the household. They're also usually seen as old and wise. For this AP, we were tasked with choosing a part of the play and a character from the play to write a commentary on. In conclusion, I thought that this project was enjoyable, but I struggled a bit with the audio part of it. I'm not super comfortable with voice acting like that, for school projects especially, but I think I did pretty well on it despite that.

In this second unit of our Humanities class, Drama, we read the play A Doll's House, and we also learned more about Victorian times and what it was like to live in them. For our Action project this unit, we had to make our own little play that connected to A Doll's House. Below is the filmed version of the play that we wrote, along with a transcript of the play. In conclusion, I thought that this Action Project was interesting and fun to do with a group, and I also liked how it connected with gender inequality.

For the second unit of our STEAM class, Cure, we learned more about how medicine works, as well as the different types of medicine and what they do, as well as reading more of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks . We also learned about how medicines work in a Lock and Key system. The Lock and Key system talks about how our nerve receptors accept enzymes to send out signals to the rest of the body, specifically the brain. Some medicines, like Advil for example, go into the nerves and stop the receptors from getting that enzyme, causing us to not feel that pain anymore. For our Action Project this unit, we were tasked with finding different treatments for a certain disease or symptom, and make a little box with information about it on it, as well as three treatments for it and how they compare to each other.
