Blanket Fever

For the second unit of our STEAM class, Cure, we learned more about how medicine works, as well as the different types of medicine and what they do, as well as reading more of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. We also learned about how medicines work in a Lock and Key system. The Lock and Key system talks about how our nerve receptors accept enzymes to send out signals to the rest of the body, specifically the brain. Some medicines, like Advil for example, go into the nerves and stop the receptors from getting that enzyme, causing us to not feel that pain anymore.

For our Action Project this unit, we were tasked with finding different treatments for a certain disease or symptom, and make a little box with information about it on it, as well as three treatments for it and how they compare to each other.

In conclusion, I thought that this project was challenging to complete, but fun. It was interesting to see all the different ways that we could treat one disease or one symptom, and have to come up with our own design for a medicine box.
