Day 4: Butterfly Stage

The butterfly stage is the final draft of my piece.

Emotion: Happiness

Happiness, it really lifts you off your feet
It makes you want to come on and groove to the beat
There ain’t nothing else like this feeling
My soul feels light, like it could hit the ceiling
So let’s all jump up super high
Real high up in the sky
Where nobody and nothing can keep us down
There is no trace left of yesterday’s frown
You feel that warmth, see that shine?
That’s the sun shining over the skyline
We’re so high up that you can’t see any clouds
Soaring, flying, gliding far above the crowds.
Happiness is a truly Golden Experience
And it really keeps us from going delirious
It’s like a fire, a spark in our soul
That keeps us burning towards our goal
Happiness gives you power, you know what I’m sayin’?
Sometimes it feels like I could go Super Saiyan,
that’s how happy I get when I’m out here laughing
At my favorite character running and smashing
their enemies into dust.
Happiness shines like an unbreakable diamond, like stardust
Shining, sparkling through the mind
Happiness really helps you relax, to unwind.

Socratic Dialogue

During this term for our Humanities class, Forbidden Books, we learned about Socrates and ancient Greece. We also learned about certain books, and the reasons that they were banned from places such as libraries and schools. We even read one of these books,  Fahrenheit 451 , which was a banned book at one point. For this Action Project, we were tasked with creating a video, based on a Socratic Dialogue between two characters with different opinions. One character convinces the other to their side, with a convincing argument. Below is the video that me and my partner, BA , filmed together. In conclusion, this project was difficult to finish, but was enjoyable to film and act out. It was also pretty easy to wing it and go off script with this project, but I think that we for the most part stayed on the script. I learned from this project on how to use lighting and framing effectively, and also how to use a script as a base and elaborate on top of it more in the actual recording.

Redesigning the Neighborhood

For this final unit of our STEAM class, Urban Planning, we learned more about how urban planning is declining as time and technology advances. We watched several TED talks, and learned about how urban planning should be done, as well as learning more about volume in preparation for our Action Project. For this Action Project, we had to look at an area within a city and redesign it to make it more sustainable and pedestrian-friendly. Below is a slideshow detailing my redesign of the Logan Square Blue Line train stop/bus stop. In conclusion, I thought that this Action Project was pretty difficult. It's surprisingly hard to redesign a space that you see every day, and are used to the way it is. It was additionally a bit difficult to manage my time, given that it's the end of the year, especially with the current events going on right now, but I managed to pull through with it pretty well, I belive.

12 Hours of Endurance

For this second unit of our Humanities class this term, Endurance, we learned more about modern examples of people that have endured, such as people like David Blaine, who set a world record for the longest time a person could hold their breath underwater, and Laura Dekker, who embarked on a two-year voyage sailing around the world in pursuit of her dream to be the youngest person ever to do so.  For this specific Action Project, we were tasked with deciding on something that we would commit to work on and endure for 12 hours over the span of two weeks. I chose to write out a setting for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign, personally, and see how far I could get with those twelve hours. Below is my video log of my work, documenting the process and my thoughts, and the planning table I used.   In conclusion, I thought that this Action Project was actually really interesting and fun.
