Creation Story

In this first unit of our Humanities class, Stories, we learned about grammar and a little bit about the history of words as well as various stories about the creation of the universe and Earth. Our AP for this unit was to write out our very own creation story. Below is my story, along with a drawing to go alongside it.

Before all else, there was nothing except Him. The Him we speak of has no name, but He is that which came before all else, that which lives in the void, that which is able to exist before existence. He is that which creates and destroys, the one who lazily rules over his creations, like it’s just a hobby for him. He only has the name he calls himself by, with no true name. The void gives off a cold feeling, maybe something like the feeling of nothing being there or no one being there for you.

The void wasn't very bright or colorful at all, so He decided to create the stars in the sky. How he created them is by taking space dust left over from that one time he accidentally started the universe (through a sneeze), and squashed it together with his hands until it forms a star, our Sun. He then took a bunch of other floating minerals and elements and slowly formed them into a ball, like molding clay but atom by atom.

Really the only reason that the Earth exists is because He was kind of bored and he wanted some form of entertainment, at least for a while. Basically, he saw life as like a form of entertainment, something for him to watch grow and evolve and interact. He wanted the Earth itself to be a place of warmth and comfort for new life to be able to grow onto it, like the planet was embracing itself.

Wanting something to watch, He decided to create the early beings. He did this by taking several tons of water and lowered its temperature until the point of it freezing. He then put it at the top and bottom of this new planet that He had created. This new ice spawned the early beings, a tribe of creatures that only wanted war. The mountains were a product of the early beings fighting, before He decided that they were no fun to watch and willed them out of existence, like they were nothing to him. They were too strong for their own good, and that got boring to Him after a while.

After the failures that were the early beings, He decided to go a lot simpler, and used spare atoms left over from them to create an extremely small organism. One that was weak and couldn’t do very much, since it only had one cell to operate itself with. He was careful to make sure that this one creature would be able to evolve and turn into other creatures down the line, because it would be cool and interesting to see what it could turn into.

After a while, that one little organism had somehow managed to evolve into these really big lizards. They ruled the planet for a few million years, but they were really the only prominent species on the planet. He was getting tired of seeing reptiles everywhere, so he created this furry little thing that he called a “mammal”. It didn’t have much of a chance against the lizards, so it chose running and hiding over trying to fight them. Wanting this little cute furry thing to have a chance, He decided to get rid of the dinosaurs by throwing a really big rock at them, accidentally wiping out most of the other life on the planet along with them. Somehow, the little furry mammals survived this event, and lived on, surviving almost like a cockroach.

A few million years after that, He noticed that one species of the mammals was showing great evolutionary promise. Taking great interest in this, He then started watching this particular species closely, as it could be the first species to reach actual intelligence. This “monkey”, as He called it, eventually learned how to take a rock and hit other things with the rock. Over time, these monkeys became more and more intelligent, and started to lose some of their fur. Once they had discovered the miracle known as “fire”, He realized that their potential could be even greater than He had initially realized. Over a few million years, these new, less hairy monkeys began to stand more and more upright, until they reached a point where they stood entirely on two legs, just like He did. He really could not wait to see what these new “humans” would do.

In conclusion, I learned from this project how to make a story about the creation of something, in my case the creation of the Earth and life. It also taught me how to visualize events in the story better. I think I struggled with coming up with an idea initially, but once I got into it and knew what I wanted to do, it was surprisingly easy. I think I might have changed a few thing regarding the story if i were to do it again.
