VISIONS Volunteer Hours

VISIONS collaborates at the grassroots level, with a strong commitment to their community partners. They have lived and worked in the Dominican Republic, Montana Indian reservations and British Virgin Islands for nearly three decades. When they develop new programs, they do so with long-term partnerships in mind. These enduring relationships translate into exceptional opportunities for deep cultural learning. You will interact with local people who know and care for us. And you will leave with a greater understanding of what life is like in other parts of the world.

This is my "pod", the VISIONS equivalent of a "cabin", except we all slept in separate tents and had to wear masks due to the pandemic.

VISIONS matters to me because it's a valuable service project that taught me a lot about where my food comes from and the process behind it. It connects with SDGs 2 and 15 because of how it relates with sustainable agriculture. My experience with them was a very positive one; it made me think a lot more about farming, and the process they have to go through just to get food to our door. It made me think about sustainable agriculture, and just how much more work you have to put into it compared to industrial farming. I plan on sharing my experience with others through this blog post, and recommending Visions as a good way to get service hours.
